90% of the time being alone feels terrible. But sometimes you spend time with married people and realize they hate their situation even more than you, and you feel a little better about being alone.
I'm not sure why people stay in crappy marriages.. you see it all the time, where the two do not get along, do not enjoy each other's company, but don't do anything about it.
I'm married, and it's great.. but if it weren't, I can't imagine sticking around for any longer than necessary to try and fix things before getting the hell out of the situation and looking for something better, whether it be single life or someone else.
Tom - since 4-21-2009 was my 37th wedding anniversary, I thought it prudent to let you know that the glue that keeps couples together is Love. Looking in from the outside, it is often difficult to describe or see how that Love keeps one focused on their mate. I also know that Love comes in many forms, most are healthy and arousing and some more perplexing. What I do know is that when a relationship becomes debilitating, that is not Love. Uncle Jim

True DAT! :)
Classic pessimist/optimist battle.
being alone is not terrible until you find the right one, then it sucks.
